Adventure Duo of the Month: Lauren & Finn

This month we’re proud to feature Lauren and Finn, a shining example of what patience, understanding, and consistency can accomplish. Finn, a sweet and sensitive pup, once struggled with fear and reactivity—especially around small dogs. Just the sight of one could send his nerves into overdrive. But through Lauren’s, and her partner Zach’s, dedication and the support of the Golden Dog community , Finn’s story has become one of remarkable progress and growing confidence.

Over the past several months, Lauren has been working closely with her neighbors to help Finn slowly desensitize to their small dog. The early sessions were challenging—lots of barking, nervous energy, and distance needed—but Lauren stayed calm and committed. Session by session, Finn began to relax a little more, learning that not every dog is something to worry about. Recently, he reached a major milestone: coexisting calmly in the yard with his new small-dog friend. He even laid down to relax during the visit, a clear sign that he’s learning to trust.

Finn has also been practicing wearing his muzzle comfortably and responding beautifully to positive reinforcement (especially when beef liver treats are involved!). These small but meaningful steps have set him up for continued success as he begins formal training classes this month to solidify his new skills and confidence around other dogs.

Lauren continues to set him up for success in real-world settings, too—like choosing to focus on Finn at our recent Golden Dog apple-picking event. By making mindful adjustments, like leaving his sister Eevee at home that day, Lauren gave Finn the chance to practice staying calm in a busy, social environment. He handled himself beautifully, earning praise from everyone around—and even a well-deserved apple treat to celebrate his progress.

Through every challenge and triumph, Lauren has shown that the key to helping reactive or fearful dogs thrive is patience, structure, and compassion. And Finn’s progress reminds us all that every bark, every brave step, and every quiet victory is worth celebrating.

Lauren and Finn, your journey inspires us to believe in the power of progress—one paw, one step, and one adventure at a time.
