Since joining the Golden Dog membership in October 2023, Lisa Urquhart and her sweet, sensitive boy Henry have become a familiar and beloved part of our adventures. With more than 60 events under their belt—from in-person socials and seasonal outings to educational Zoom sessions with our trusted training and veterinary partners—this duo truly embodies what it means to show up, learn, and grow.
Henry may be a sensitive soul, but that hasn’t stopped Lisa from leaning in, trying new things, and celebrating every step forward. Along the way, she’s embraced the idea that enrichment doesn’t have to be complicated. Sometimes it’s as simple as offering something new and letting your dog figure it out in their own time. What started as a gentle, uncertain interaction can turn into curiosity, confidence, and even a little joy.
Through every season, Henry has been building his own version of a full and meaningful life. He’s run through the snow at Winter Wiggles, played with friends until he was completely exhausted, explored new environments at sensory events, and enjoyed indoor playdates on cold evenings. Each experience adds another layer—not just of activity, but of confidence, familiarity, and trust.
Like many dogs, Henry is navigating the world in his own way. There are moments of hesitation, times when things feel overwhelming, and situations that take longer to process. But within this community, those moments are met with patience, understanding, and support. Handlers give space, offer calm energy, and create an environment where dogs like Henry can take things at their own pace and still feel included.
Over time, those consistent, supportive experiences have led to something even more meaningful: connection. Henry has formed special bonds with friends like Nora and Orion, and what started as shared space has grown into real friendships. Alongside that, Lisa has built her own connections, finding community, encouragement, and a sense of belonging among others on similar journeys.
What stands out most about Lisa and Henry is not perfection, but presence. They show up. They try. They adapt. They celebrate the small wins and keep moving forward, even when it’s not easy. And in doing so, they help create the kind of space that allows others to do the same.
We are so grateful to have Lisa and Henry as part of this community. Their openness, consistency, and willingness to share both the challenges and the progress help shape Golden Dog into what it is—a place where both dogs and humans can feel seen, supported, and safe.
