This month we’re excited to recognize Paula and Orion as our Adventure Duo of the Month. Since joining the Golden Dog community in March of 2022, this dedicated pair has attended more than 100 online and in-person events, embracing the many dog-friendly activities and adventures available throughout New Hampshire. Paula’s commitment to learning and Orion’s well-being shines through in everything they do together.
Paula originally joined Golden Dog for a reason many dog guardians can relate to: finding community. As she shared, “I joined specifically to find more friends for me and my dog because I was having a hard time doing it organically. At a minimum here I know I can talk dog with anyone and it’s a great ice breaker.” Having a shared love of dogs creates an instant connection, and the Golden Dog community offers exactly that—a welcoming space where people who love adventure dogs and active lifestyles can meet and learn together.
Orion’s story began with a bit of fate. After months of searching for the right dog, Paula made a hopeful post on Facebook that led her to a rescue organization—and eventually to Orion’s puppy photo. She submitted her application immediately, and within hours the post was pulled. Soon after, Paula received the call she had been hoping for: Orion was hers. As luck would have it, a family flying from the Caribbean to Boston that weekend was able to bring the tiny puppy north. Paula remembers waiting nervously at Logan Airport until she finally saw the carrier come through the crowd. When Orion was placed in her arms, he was even smaller than she imagined—so small the sweater she brought for him was far too big. Born on a Caribbean beach and suddenly experiencing a New England winter, Orion spent his first days bundled up in borrowed sweaters until he grew into his own.
Since then, Orion has grown into Paula’s big baby, goober, and adventure buddy. Together they’ve explored some incredible dog-friendly destinations in New Hampshire, from paddle boarding outings to scenic drives along the Kancamagus Highway, trail walks near the Swift River, and visits to Dog Mountain in Vermont. One memorable day included a stop for Orion’s own “Pawtte” drink at a Littleton shop, followed by time at Dog Mountain where Paula honored Orion’s bunny brother Cosmo in the chapel. The day ended with Golden Dog friends gathering at the overlook—one of those simple but meaningful moments that remind us how powerful the bond between dogs and people can be.
Paula approaches every adventure with Orion thoughtfully and respectfully, always paying attention to his comfort level and advocating for his needs. Whether practicing off-leash skills in their neighborhood, navigating challenging encounters during walks, or helping Orion build confidence meeting new people and dogs, Paula brings patience, humor, and dedication to the journey. Orion, in turn, continues to grow through positive experiences, respectful introductions, and the support of a community that understands dogs.
Their journey together is a reminder that adventure isn’t about perfection—it’s about showing up, learning, and growing alongside our dogs.
Through hikes, social events, and dog-friendly adventures throughout New Hampshire, Paula and Orion embody what Golden Dog is all about: wellness, enrichment, and connection at both ends of the leash.
