Downtown Portsmouth, NH

Downtown Portsmouth, NH is a fun area to visit any time of year. There is always something to do, see, visit, etc. This review is about some of our favorite places to visit when downtown. We do take our reactive dogs to different spots in this area during the week when it is not as crowded.

Here are the details about this dog-friendly area:

  • 🅿️ Parking: there are several places to park in downtown Portsmouth. The most centrally located area is the Hanover Parking Garage which is $2/hour and located at 34 Hanover St.
  • 🐕 Reactive Dog Rating: Level 2-3+ depending on the time of day/week you visit (see our Reactive Dog Comfort Level Chart)
  • ✔️ Public Restrooms are available next to the Hanover Street entrance to the parking facility
  • 📱 Cell service in this area (we use Verizon)
  • 🐶 Leashed dogs only
  • 💩 Please clean up your waste and deposit in the trash.

Take a few hours and visit some of the dog friendly stores in the area. We particularly like the Dog Art Gallery owned by Kimberly Sarah Photography. Located at 40 Pleasant St., you and your furry family can stroll through their 2,500 s.f. gallery featuring over 40 works of dogs and cats.

Next, take a stroll around town to see monuments, interesting paintings, unique architecture, and more.
