Northwood Meadows State Park, Northwood, NH

Northwood Meadows State Park is a beautiful hike with mostly wider paths, views of Meadow Lake, and a steeper portion with narrower paths on the backside of the lake. There are many trails you can take but we prefer the Huckins Orchard Trail to the Lake Trail Loop. If you want to make your hike longer, there are options.

Here are the details about this trail:

  • GPS: 755 1st NH Tpke.
  • Length: 2.5 – 2.7 miles
  • Elevation gain: 108 ft
  • Time: 1 – 1.5 hours
  • Difficulty Rating: Easy to moderate (see our Trail Rating & Pace Guide)
  • Pace: Stroll to moderate
  • Reactive Dog Rating: Level 2-3 (see our Reactive Dog Comfort Level Chart)
  • 🚫 No bathroom at trailhead
  • 📱 Cell service (Verizon)
  • 🚗 Parking: large lot for around 40 cars
  • 🚫 Hunting: allowed in designated areas
  • 🐶 Leashed dogs only
  • 💩 Carry out dog waste
  • 💧 Swimming options for dogs

If the trail is icy (Yaktrax or spikes recommended) or if you prefer to stay on a wider path to give your dog extra space, follow Dashingdown Road to the Lake Loop Trail. We recommend downloading a Trail Map at NHStateParks.org.

Since this is a popular location with several areas to access the water and take a swim, you may see dogs off leash, even though their signage says leashed dogs only. Be aware.

When the weather is nice, this trail is very busy. If visiting with a sensitive dog, we recommend visiting during the week vs. the weekend.
