SPECIAL EVENT: Coastal Sensory Exploration and Picnic with Nature Education Opportunities
ABOUT THE EVENT:
Join us at Short Sands Beach for a coastal sensory exploration for dogs and their people with Kelly Dwyer of Nature Education Opportunities.
Walking your dog on the beach offers countless opportunities to engage your senses (and your dog’s, too) and experience the joys and surprises along this unique Maine seacoast habitat.
Join us for an afternoon of sensory fun as we explore:
- Fascinating tidepool inhabitants visible only during low tide
- Shorebirds migrating along the tideline as well as gulls and loons riding the waves
- Unexpected gifts from the sea such as driftwood, shells, and seaweed
In addition to our nature program, we will enjoy a picnic dinner on the beach (no glass bottles) and take a leisurely walk into town with a stop at the York Fire Department to see if they have biscuits.
Depending on the weather and interest, we will all meet up at Dunne’s after for ice cream (cash only) and watch the sunset happening at 6:38pm.

This beach program is rated as Level 1 Stroll. See an explanation of our Trail Rating System.
