ABOUT THE EVENT:
Step into the world of your dog’s senses with the Sensory Explorers Competition! This event is specially designed for dogs to harness and explore their innate sensory capabilities, enhancing their confidence, sense of safety, and relaxation. It’s a unique opportunity for participants to deeply connect with their dogs and understand how they perceive the world around them.

• Comprehensive Sensory Challenges: Dogs will engage in a series of activities that encourage them to use all their senses, especially their profound sense of smell. The competition focuses on calm exploration and thorough sniffing as dogs navigate through a variety of sensory experiences.
• Smiling Leash: Follow your dog’s lead with a “smiling leash,” which promotes gentle guidance as your dog makes choices about interacting with the environment. This technique emphasizes trust and respect in the handler-dog relationship.
• Insightful Interaction: Gain insights into your dog’s decision-making processes and preferences in a protected, mall-like setting, which offers diverse stimuli for sensory exploration.
• Teamwork and Trust-Building: Work together through a curated series of items and setups that challenge both dog and handler to maintain thoughtful movement and build a deeper trust.

JUDGING CRITERIA: You and your dog will be judged on the following criteria.

1. Smiling Leash
2. Proper Use of Equipment & Knowledge of Appropriate Gear
3. Dog/Handler Connection
4. Calm Exploration

IS THIS EVENT GOOD FOR REACTIVE DOGS?
Reactive Dog Level 1. See our Comfort Chart for explanation. For this challenge, your dog will be competing in a relaxed setting separate from the traffic at the Mall at Fox Run in Newington. If your dog is comfortable around a few dogs and people in a spread out area with sensory activities then choose the group competition ticket below (up to 4 dogs). If your dog needs even more space and consideration, please choose the Reactive Dog Friendly ticket option instead.
