GET FIT WITH FIDO: Test Group #3

ABOUT THE EVENT:
Golden Dog Adventure Co. is excited to introduce Get Fit with Fido, an innovative new way to move, train, and bond with your dog! These classes are part of a limited test series running throughout October and November.

Unlike our Playground-based sessions that focus on gentle, low-impact activities, this special outing at Northwood Meadows State Park will be a more moderate workout. Expect a brisk walking pace combined with light fitness movements along the trail. Participants should be comfortable hiking 2.5–2.7 miles on moderate terrain and engaging in basic bodyweight activities.

This class is ideal for anyone ready to take their fitness up a notch while enjoying the outdoors with their dog. If you have concerns about your ability to participate, please check with your doctor before attending.

Together with your canine companion, you’ll explore movement-focused activities designed to improve health, build confidence, and strengthen the human–dog bond—all while soaking in the beauty of one of New Hampshire’s most scenic state parks.

We’ll hike the Huckins Orchard Trail from the parking lot to the Lake Trail loop and back. Midway, we’ll stop at an open area to use yoga mats for a short guided movement activity. Along the way, as dogs stop to sniff and engage with the environment, participants will be encouraged to perform simple arm and leg movements (examples will be provided) to keep their bodies active and engaged.

Each 2-hour session includes:

• Warm-up (gentle stretches for humans and dogs)
• Trail hike with cardio & resistance training
• Cool-down (relaxation and recovery)
• Feedback circle (share your experience and ideas to help shape the program)

What to Bring

• Yoga-style mat
• Wrist/ankle weights (optional)
• Resistance bands
• Waist leash (recommended for best control and hands-free movement)
• Hip pack to carry water, treats, poop bags, phone, keys, etc. (optional)
• High value treats
• Water for you and your dog and a water bowl
• Comfortable clothes and sneakers/hiking boots

Important Notes

• These sessions are designed for humans and their own dogs. You will both be learning new activities, so patience and practice are encouraged—just have fun with the process!
• All dogs must remain on leash during the hike and movement activities.
• Participants must allow photos and videos of the session to be taken and used for promotional purposes.
• Modifications can be made to any activity to fit your needs.

Health & Safety

• Each test group is limited to 6 participants.
• Participants should be able to comfortably hike 2.5–2.7 miles at a moderate pace and engage in light fitness activities.
• Participants should be able to handle light to moderate fitness activities.
• Please check with your doctor before joining if you have concerns about your health or ability to participate, and confirm with your veterinarian that your dog is healthy and fit for this level of activity.
• You must sign a liability waiver before class begins.
• Participation is at your own risk. Golden Dog Adventure Co. is not responsible for any injuries or incidents that may occur due to inability to safely handle exercises, the hike, or canine interactions.

IS THIS EVENT GOOD FOR REACTIVE DOGS?
Reactive Dog Level 2-3. See our Comfort Chart for explanation. This Get Fit With Fido hike takes place on public trails where participants may encounter other hikers, children, and dogs. While the group will stay together, dogs will remain in close proximity during both the walk and the movement activity. We will spread out as best we can with the space provided. Your dog should be comfortable passing others on trail and working around groups of people and dogs. If your dog would be uncomfortable or stressed in this type of environment, we recommend attending without your dog. • Please join the waitlist if the event fills up and we will notify you of cancellations.

CANCELLATIONS:
If weather or covid conditions make gathering unsafe, the event will be cancelled/rescheduled and announced in the Event section of the Facebook Group and on this Calendar page. If you are registered, you will also receive an announcement via email.
