MEMBER ONLY: Walk & Picnic at Hamilton House

ABOUT THE EVENT:

Join us for a relaxed Golden Dog member outing as we explore the Historic Hamilton House gardens, surrounding land, and the scenic area along the Salmon Falls River, where dogs will have the opportunity to swim (if conditions allow).

This outing will include a 1–1.5 mile walk with plenty of room for dogs to spread out, observe, sniff, and take in their surroundings. The focus will be on relaxation, connection, and helping dogs feel comfortable while enjoying the company of others.

What to Expect:

• A relaxed 1–1.5 mile walk
• Time to explore gardens, woods, and riverside areas
• Opportunities for dogs to observe, sniff, and decompress
• Space for dogs to spread out without pressure to interact
• Swimming and water play along the river (if conditions allow)
• A casual picnic after the walk

Please bring lunch for yourself and your dog, along with a blanket if you’d like.

Walk with a Trainer Opportunity:

• We’re excited to have Monica Allaire of Barrington Barks & Behavior joining us as our dog training partner on site.
• Monica will work closely with 2–3 members and their dogs during the outing, offering real-time support and guidance in a relaxed group walk environment.
• Interested members will also have access to a 30-minute live Zoom meeting with Monica ahead of the event to discuss your dog’s needs.
• This special add-on is a great fit if your dog struggles with group walks, needs more space, or if you’d like help understanding what your dog needs to feel more comfortable and supported around other dogs and people.

IS THIS EVENT GOOD FOR REACTIVE DOGS?
Reactive Dog Level 1-2. See our Comfort Chart for explanation. This outing is a good fit for reactive, sensitive, or space-seeking dogs who benefit from distance, movement, sniffing, and calm observation. Dogs will not be expected to greet or interact, and we’ll aim to keep plenty of space between participants. Because this is a public area, we may encounter other dogs, people, children, and activity near the river, so please be aware. There will be ample space to spread out and give your dog the space needed to feel comfortable. COST: Please register for this event below. You may also register other family members when you sign up who will be arriving in the same car with you.

• *Entry fee is payable in cash at the booth upon arrival. The cost is $4 for non-residents, $1 for non-resident seniors, and $3 for Maine residents.

Members, if you register and cannot attend, please cancel within 48 hours to avoid a cancellation fee of $25/person. This allows members on the waitlist to have a chance to go if you cannot. Thank you!

DIRECTIONS/PARKING:
The Hamilton House is located at Vaughn Woods Memorial State Park, 28 Oldfields Road, South Berwick, ME. Additional information will be included with your event reminder emailed within 24 hours prior to the event.

WHAT TO KNOW BEFORE JOINING AN EVENT:
Please review our Club Guidelines, sign our Liability Waivers & Release Forms, and read our covid guidelines on our Events & Activities page. Please note that retractable leashes as well as aversive training tools such as prong/pinch, choke, bark control, shock, and spray collars are not allowed at our events.

CANCELLATIONS:
If weather or covid conditions make gathering and walking unsafe, the event will be cancelled and announced in the Event section of the Facebook Group and on this Calendar page. Those who have registered will also receive an email announcement.
