MEMBERS ONLY: Off Leash Social @ the Beach
**This event is only available to official club members and their families.**
ABOUT THE EVENT:
This walk is for official Club members only. Not a member? Learn about membership and join for discounts and savings on adventures, education, products, and services.
For our April members only adventure, we are headed to Short Sands Beach for an off leash dog social. We only offer these types of off leash events a few times each year. Since dogs are allowed off leash at this beach before May 20th, we will also allow members at this adventure to have their dogs off leash. This is a great opportunity to watch your dog enjoy the ocean and sand before the beach closes to off leash play and access during the day.
If your dog is not good off leash, but is comfortable with social play, you may bring a long lead so they can enjoy stretching their legs and swimming.
If you have been working on loose leash recall with your dog, this could be a perfect training environment with lots of distraction. Bring high value treats.
Our Adventure Guide team will be there to assist with proper social play etiquette, communication among dog guardians, and recognition of any uncomfortable body language your dog may be exhibiting. If we feel your dog is uncomfortable at this event and is showing signs of stress, we will ask you to give them a break. This can be done by walking away from the group with your dog on long lead, walking into town or down the beach trail along the grass.
The goal of this event is to offer a positive experience for dogs and humans, and to ensure all dogs leave on a positive note. Please be open to these conversations with our team!
This event is open for 2 hours. Members can arrive anytime during that 2 hour window and stay as long as they want. Staggering arrival times will help to reduce the number of dogs at the beach with fresh energy.
IS THIS EVENT GOOD FOR REACTIVE DOGS?
We do not recommend this event if your dog is easily pushed over threshold by dogs exhibiting play and high energy. If your dog needs space from other dogs at all times, we do not recommend attending this event. Your dog must be able to read other dog’s social cues and cut off signals to avoid conflict and help diffuse high-arousal situations. If your dog has a negative experience, it could set them back in their development and training. If you have concerns or questions about if this event is right for your dog, please email woof@goldendognh.com for assistance.
