MEMBERS ONLY: Snowshoeing at Massabesic Audubon Center

ABOUT THE EVENT:

Join us for our first snowshoeing adventure of the season (weather and trail conditions permitting) at the Massabesic Audubon Center in Auburn, NH. We will hike the 3 mile out-and-back Battery Point Trail to a scenic point on Lake Massabesic, where we may spot Bald Eagles and wintering waterfowl along the way. Binoculars are recommended for wildlife viewing.

If there is not enough snow for snowshoeing, we will hike the trail instead. In that case, Yaktrax or similar traction devices are recommended.

Snowshoes are available to rent through the Massabesic Audubon Center for $10 for Audubon members and $15 for non-members. If you plan to rent snowshoes, please email woof@goldendognh.com by February 18th with your requested size (Adult or Child).

Never snowshoed with your dog? Check out these best practices, including using a waist leash for your dog. You are also welcome to attend without your dog if this may be too physical for them.

IS THIS EVENT GOOD FOR REACTIVE DOGS?
Reactive Dog Level 2. See our Comfort Chart for explanation. Dogs must be on leash at this trail. The trail is mostly wide but does get narrower in locations. There are places to step off if we meet an oncoming dog. Depending on the weather, this may be a busy trail. Please remember that you are also welcome to attend without your dog if you feel this would be an uncomfortable setting for them. TRAIL RATING:
The Battery Point Trail is rated as Level 1.5 Moderate. See an explanation of our Trail Rating System. Snowshoes are recommended for 6+ inches of snow. If less than 6″, we will hike. You are welcome to hike if more than 6″ of snow if you prefer to not use snowshoes.

PLEASE NOTE: dogs are not allowed on Massabesic Center property (fields, trails, gardens). As a courtesy, their parking lot provides access to dog-friendly, All-Use Trails at either end of Audubon Way (follow the road until you see Manchester Water Works property signs). Dogs must be leashed at all times in the parking lot, and on the neighboring trails. For maps and more information, visit their website.

• This adventure is limited to 20 dogs

If your plans change, we kindly ask that you cancel at least 48 hours in advance. This helps us offer your spot to another member on the waitlist and avoid a $25/person late-cancellation fee. We truly appreciate your help in making sure everyone has a chance to participate.

Massabesic Audubon Center is located at 26 Audubon Way in Auburn, NH. Additional details will be emailed 24 hours prior to the event.

CANCELLATIONS:
If weather or covid conditions make gathering and walking unsafe, the event will be cancelled and registered guests will receive a email cancellation notice. It will also be announced in the Event section of the Facebook Group and on this Calendar page.
