SPECIAL EVENT: Nature-based Mindfulness
ABOUT THE EVENT:
Join us to unwind, breathe deeply, relax with your dog, and take in all that nature has to offer while you channel your inner calm in this Nature-based Mindfulness session.
We will begin with an easy, 45-minute stroll around the Urban Forestry Center to enjoy the forest, water’s edge, and creatures we see and hear as we stretch our legs and allow our dogs to get some energy out.
Afterwards, Kaitlin Muller-Cusack, educator, M.Ed, RYT and founder of Taking Root, will guide participants on how to connect to themselves and their dogs as well as the natural world through nature-based education and mindfulness practices. We will ease into the present moment in nature using meditation, yoga, somatic breathing exercises, mindfulness activities, and reflection.
- gain tools to build resilience in body awareness;
- learn how to regulate the nervous system, and reduce stress and anxiety;
- enjoy the benefits of a calm dog when you channel your inner calm;
- end the session feeling grounded, connected, and empowered.
Please bring a yoga mat as well as water for you and your dog.
IS THIS EVENT GOOD FOR REACTIVE DOGS?
This is a good event for reactive dogs. We will be focused on relaxation and meditative practices to help both humans and dogs channel their inner calm. It should be quieter and there is plenty of room to step off the path in most places if approached by another person and their dog. We will also be spread out during the yoga portion of the event. If you have concerns or questions about if this event is right for your dog, please email firstname.lastname@example.org for assistance.
The Trail is rated as Level 1 Stroll. See an explanation of our Trail Rating System.
