NATURE WALK: Moon Owl Prowl with Nature Education Opportunities
ABOUT THE EVENT:
Join us for evening walk at the Urban Forestry Center in Portsmouth for a unique opportunity to listen for courting owls as dusk descends. This adventure will be led by Kelly Dwyer, award-winning environmental educator, and owner of Nature Education Opportunities. Kelly will share her amazing owl calls with us as well as discuss owl courtship rituals.
Along the trail, we will discuss:
- The natural history of several owl species such as the Barred, Great-horned and Screech, including fascinating courtship behaviors and winter survival adaptations.
- The impacts of winter weather and snow conditions on these beautiful avian predators.
- Mammal madness-courtship and mating rituals.
You will now understand why your dog may be growling and howling at the windows at night!
PLEASE be prepared for a portion of the walk to be after sunset. Bring flashlights, headlamps, and appropriate footwear (boots and ice cleats, if needed) and clothing, as well as any items your dog may need for comfortable walking.
A special treat will be provided as a reward for dogs to enjoy as well as a yummy treat for our human participants. If your dog has allergies, please alert us at woof@nhdogwalkingclub.com.
