OFFICIAL CLUB ADVENTURE: Building Recall on the Trail

ABOUT THE EVENT:
Now it’s time to put learning into action.

In this on-leash Official Club Adventure on 75 acres of private land in Barrington, June Featured Expert and Professional Dog Trainer Jake Belmont of Red Pointy Dog Training will guide participants through real-world recall practice in a private trail environment designed to help dogs and handlers build confidence, communication, and success together.

Building on the concepts introduced during this month’s Pop Up Talk, this hands-on experience focuses on applying recall skills in practical, everyday situations while working at each dog’s individual comfort and ability level.

We’ll begin with a brief welcome and discussion around spacing, safety, trail etiquette, and setting dogs up for success before moving into guided exercises throughout the hike.

Participants will practice:

  • Building engagement and check-ins before movement
  • Recall in low to moderate distraction environments
  • Calling dogs away from sniffing, movement, and environmental distractions
  • Reading body language and adjusting expectations in real time
  • Using reinforcement strategically to maintain connection and trust

Throughout the adventure, Jake will provide live coaching and practical guidance to help handlers better understand how environment, arousal, and distraction influence recall success.

At the end, we will regroup to discuss what worked well, where dogs struggled, and what participants can continue practicing moving forward.

This adventure is designed to be supportive, practical, and confidence-building. The goal is not perfect recall, but helping both ends of the leash make meaningful progress in real-world settings.

IS THIS EVENT GOOD FOR REACTIVE DOGS?
Reactive Dog Level 3. See our Comfort Chart for explanation. This adventure may be appropriate for some dogs who need extra space, but it may be challenging for dogs who struggle to focus in distracting environments. Dogs will be on long leads and working around trail distractions, movement, and other dogs at a distance. Handlers should be prepared to maintain space, advocate for their dog, and adjust participation as needed. If you have concerns or questions about if this event is right for your dog, please email woof@goldendognh.com for assistance.
