OFFICIAL CLUB ADVENTURE: Happier Handling Skills Practice

**This event has been cancelled and will be rescheduled in July**

ABOUT THE EVENT:
For this Official Club Adventure, we are headed to the Northwood Athletic Fields in Northwood, NH for some fear free skills practice with Laura Gendron of Miss Behavior Training.

Going to the Vet can be a stressful experience for both dogs and their people. Often, it’s an environment that comes with a lot of emotional or traumatic history and is so out of context from the home environment that it becomes a whirlwind of triggers.

Laura is a certified, professional dog trainer who will teach participants happier handling skills, including predictor cues and cooperative care techniques, in an environment that is different from home, but allows your dog to feel a bit more comfortable with the introduction of some handling on-the-go.

During this event, you will have an opportunity to expand upon what was taught during the Happier Handling at Home Pop Up Talk.

Participants will move through different stations with their dog to practice skills that will eventually be needed during a vet visit. With Laura’s guidance, you will be able to practice the skills in an open and natural, outdoor environment where each handling skill will be followed up with an opportunity to decompress and explore.

During this hands-on activity, you will:

  • Learn trust and confidence building exercises to make handling your dog easier and less stressful;
  • Discover how to manage your dogs emotional and physical needs when it comes to routine tasks at the vet’s office;
  • Gain confidence by practicing handling tasks in an open and controlled environment;
  • Practice specific skills such as climbing on a platform, having a stranger nearby, moving into different restraint positions, targeting a novel item, and holding still for the count of three.

In between stations, your dog will be encouraged to sniff, explore, eat, play with toys and visit sensory pools for focused enrichment and relaxation.

This event is a good one for reactive dogs. We will work on focused activities that teach confidence building and dogs will be spread out from other participants. If you have concerns or questions about if this event is right for your dog, please email woof@goldendognh.com for assistance.
