OFFICIAL CLUB ADVENTURE: Putting Predation Substitute Training into Practice

ABOUT THE EVENT:
You love hiking with your dog, and at times, having them off leash. But then all of a sudden……..”SQUIRREL”! Does this sound familiar? For this Official Club Adventure, we are headed to Jim Hill Riverwalk in Concord, NH for Predation Substitute Training with Jake Belmont of Red Pointy Dog Training.

Predation Substitute Training (PST)™ is a motivation-based and need-oriented training program, designed to stop uncontrolled predatory chasing and to provide safe outlets for your dog’s natural drive.

On this 3-mile adventure, at a quieter location in Concord, we will put into practice what we learned during the Pop Up Talk on June 6th. Did you miss the live presentation? Members, you can access in the Library.

We will also stop to enjoy a swim at the large, open beach off the Contoocook River while on the trail.

During this adventure, you will:

  • Learn how to use predation games on the trail to relieve those “squirrel” moments;
  • Discover creative ways to help your dog recall;
  • Have an opportunity for your dog to be on long lead and practice with the help of a certified, professional dog trainer;
  • Gain confidence by practicing PST skills in an open and controlled environment;
  • Benefit from questions asked and experiences shared from other dog handlers at the adventure.

IS THIS EVENT GOOD FOR REACTIVE DOGS?
This event is a good one for reactive dogs. This trail is usually very quiet. The trails are a bit narrower, but there is room to pull off if approached by another dog and handler. We will work on focused activities and games that teach confidence building which is perfect for reactive dogs. If you have concerns or questions about if this event is right for your dog, please email woof@goldendognh.com for assistance.
