ONLINE EVENT: Can We Get Ahead of Canine Cancer?

ABOUT THE EVENT:
Cancer is one of the most difficult diagnoses a dog guardian can face—and it often leaves us wondering why it happened, whether it could have been prevented, and if there was anything we could have done differently.

This month’s Ask the Vet topic was inspired by a Golden Dog member who recently experienced several devastating losses to hemangiosarcoma among dogs in her extended circle, raising important questions about cancer risk in our dogs.

Join Dr. Lisa Boyer of Animal Health Consultants for a candid and educational conversation about canine cancer, including why certain breeds may be more predisposed to particular cancers and what we currently understand about the roles of genetics, heredity, age, nutrition, environment, and lifestyle.

We’ll also explore what dog guardians should know about early detection and screening, hemangiosarcoma and why it can be so difficult to detect, as well as emerging cancer research—including the development of vaccines and other new approaches to prevention and treatment.

ABOUT LISA BOYER, DVM:
Dr. Lisa Boyer is the owner of Animal Health Consultants and has dedicated 23 years to practicing as an emergency veterinarian. She regularly shares her knowledge as a featured speaker in the Golden Dog “Ask the Veterinarian” series.

In addition to her veterinary practice, Dr. Boyer is an enthusiast of canine sports and a professional in integrative medicine, trained in both western medicine and holistic modalities such as acupuncture and canine fitness. She also works as a dog trainer and breeder.

She has authored numerous articles for sporting dog magazines, contributing significantly to the field.
