ONLINE EVENT: From Chaos to Calm: Unlock the Power of Desensitization & Counterconditioning

ABOUT THE EVENT:
Do you have a reactive dog and want to better understand their unique needs while connecting with a supportive community? Our Reactive Dog Support Group meets online the 2nd Thursday of each month from 7:00 – 8:30pm ET, March through November, in our Zoom Room.

This group is a safe space to learn, share, and grow alongside other reactive dog guardians. You’ll gain insights into your dog’s behavior, discuss real-life challenges and successes, and hear inspiring stories from fellow participants.

Each 90-minute session includes:

✅ Open discussion where members can share struggles and wins
✅ Expert-led guidance and training resources
✅ Monthly themes and suggested pre-session activities to reinforce learning
✅ Special guest appearances throughout the year

June Theme: Desensitization & Counterconditioning – Transforming Triggers into Trust
As summer brings more outdoor activity—kids out of school, busy parks, loud events—this month’s focus is on helping your dog change how they feel about their triggers. We’ll explore how to use desensitization (gradual exposure) and counterconditioning (creating positive associations) to reduce reactivity and build emotional resilience.

June featured expert and professional dog trainer, Jake Belmont of Red Pointy Dog Training, will also join this important discussion as a special guest.

Pre-Session Suggested Activities
To get the most out of this session, participants are encouraged to:

1. Watch & Practice LAT Game: Review the video tutorial ‘Look at That’ LAT Game – Teaching Dogs to Focus and Eye Contact. A step-by-step video demonstrating how to teach your dog the LAT game. Then practice the LAT (“Look at That”) – Training Exercise for Reactive Behavior. This guide explains how to implement the LAT game to help your dog calmly observe triggers without reacting.
2. Read & Watch Desensitization & Counterconditioning: Read the comprehensive guide outlining methods to change your dog’s emotional response to triggers. Review the informative video detailing the principles and application of desensitization and counterconditioning techniques.
