ONLINE EVENT: Mental Health Support Group for Pet Care Providers
ABOUT THE EVENT:
Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make healthy choices.
Pets positively impact our mental health in many ways, including reducing stress and anxiety. They also provide unconditional love and support and offer companionship. However, being a pet parent comes with additional responsibilities and pressures.
The amount of love humans have for their pets can lead to worries about their pet parenting skills as they strive to provide the best care for their furry companions. Additional worries include stressing about your pet parenting skills, the wellbeing of your pet, and the cost of pet care.
Join our NEW Mental Health Support Group which meets the 2nd Thursday of every month, March – November from 7:00 – 8:30pm in our Zoom Room. In this online support group, we will read The Stress Prescription by Dr. Elissa Epel, share stories, ask questions, offer support, and provide resources to help each other balance the needs of being a pet parent and maintaining our own health and wellbeing. This group is for past and current pet guardians as well as those who are considering adoption.
At the October session, we will be joined by Marlene O’Neill Laberge who is a registered social worker, certified Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapist, and a professional dog trainer. She is also certified in dialectical behavior therapy for adults.
Monthly, participants will:
- Read a chapter in The Stress Prescription – (Participants must purchase the book/audio book prior to the first session)
- Discuss and provide feedback on the reading
