ONLINE EVENT: Reactive Dog Support Group (March)
ABOUT THE EVENT:
Do you have a reactive dog and want to better understand their unique needs while connecting with a supportive community? Our Reactive Dog Support Group meets online the 2nd Thursday of each month from 7:00 – 8:30pm ET, March through November, in our Zoom Room.
This group is a safe space to learn, share, and grow alongside other reactive dog guardians. You’ll gain insights into your dog’s behavior, discuss real-life challenges and successes, and hear inspiring stories from fellow participants.
Each 90-minute session includes:
✅ Open discussion where members can share struggles and wins
✅ Expert-led guidance and training resources
✅ Monthly themes and occasional “homework” to reinforce learning
✅ Special guest appearances throughout the year
Our Featured Guest for March: Helen St. Pierre of No Monkey Business Dog Training
March Theme: Understanding Reactivity
Kicking off the year, we’ll explore why dogs become reactive and how their behavior is rooted in emotions like fear, frustration, and overexcitement. We’ll discuss common triggers, body language, and stress signals, setting the foundation for a year of growth and support.
Pre-Session Homework: Preparing for Our March Discussion
To get the most out of our first session, participants are encouraged to:
📌 Observe & Identify Triggers – Track your dog’s reactions over 3-5 days, noting what triggers them, their body language, and how long it takes them to calm down. (How to Read Dog Body Language)
📌 Keep a Reactivity Log – Document incidents using this Reactivity Log Template to track patterns and progress.
📌 Watch & Listen – Dog-Dog Reactivity – A Conversation with Dr. Ian Dunbar and Understanding Dog Fear (Part 1): Genetics, Trauma, And Your Dog’s Well-being with Susan Garrett
📌 Reflect & Journal – How do you feel when your dog reacts? What do you currently do in those moments, and what would you like to change?
📌 Discussion – Come prepared to discuss your findings.
This group is limited to 15 participants to ensure a welcoming and engaging environment. If you love a reactive dog, you’re not alone—join us for learning, support, and progress!
