ONLINE EVENT: Understanding Anxiety, Stress & Whole-Dog Wellness
ABOUT THE EVENT:
When a dog struggles with anxiety, reactivity, overstimulation, or difficulty settling, there may be more going on than training alone can solve. Physical wellness, pain, diet, sleep, environment, stress hormones, and nervous system health can all influence how a dog responds to the world.
In this month’s Ask the Vet, Dr. Lisa Boyer of Animal Health Consultants looks at behavior through a broader wellness lens. We’ll explore why some dogs have a harder time coping, what happens when a dog is stuck in a chronic stress response, and how nutrition, veterinary care, training, management, and—in some cases—medication can work together to support better emotional regulation.
What we’ll cover:
- Why behavior challenges are rarely about “stubbornness” or “dominance”
- How stress and anxiety affect the brain and body
- What happens when dogs stay in fight-or-flight
- How pain, health issues, diet, and environment can influence behavior
- When veterinary support or medication may be appropriate
- How training, management, enrichment, and wellness work together
You’ll leave with a clearer understanding of what may be driving your dog’s behavior, when to look beyond training, and how to better support anxious, reactive, or sensitive dogs with compassion and practical tools.
