PACK ADVENTURE: Mast Rd. Natural Area
ABOUT THE EVENT:
Pack Adventures are hiking events that happen during the week. They attract a smaller group of people which is perfect for dogs that need some additional space in a group.
For this adventure, we are headed back to a favorite trail at the Mast Road Natural Area in Epping for a 3 – 3.5 mile hike. This natural area consists of 531 acres of forest and wetlands along the federally designated Wild & Scenic Lamprey River.
Natural and archaeological features of this area include:
- 3,200 feet of Lamprey River frontage
- Wetlands and streams
- Red Maple floodplain forest
- Black gum basin swamp
- Pitch pine-heath swamp
- Upland hemlock-hardwood-pine forest
We will hike the Black Gum Trail to the Old Piggery Trail and then take the Lamprey River Trail Loop for approximately 3 miles total. If time and weather allow, we can also take the out and back Beauchesne Farm Trail which adds an additional .4 miles to the hike.
Please bring a long lead for additional exercise in the large open field and if we get lucky, possibly some swimming in the river.

This Trail is rated as Level 1-1.5 Moderate. This path is mostly flat with a 65 ft. elevation gain. See an explanation of our Trail Rating System.
