POP UP ADVENTURE: Become a B.A.R.K. Ranger at Saint Gaudens

ABOUT THE EVENT:

Join us for a fun and unique event at the beautiful Saint-Gaudens National Historical Park in Cornish, NH to have your dog earn and be deputized as an official B.A.R.K. Ranger. We will complete specific tasks to help your dog earn this honor as well as learn the B.A.R.K. principles so you and your dog can have a safe and fun visit anytime you go to a national park.

This program is part of the Healthy People Healthy Parks Initiative. B.A.R.K. stands for:

• Bag your pet’s waste
• Always leash your pet
• Respect wildlife
• Know where you can go

AGENDA:

Complete B.A.R.K. Ranger Tasks

1. Hike 2 – 3 miles to see the beauty of Saint Gaudens. The weather for the day will determine the path we choose. If it is hot, we will hike down the Ravine Trail to the swimming hole or we may hike the Blow-Me-Down Trail to see the old mill, dam, and stone arch bridge. Both trails offer swimming options.
2. Have a picnic on the lawn of the Park. Please bring a picnic blanket and lunch for yourself and your dog. No glass bottles.
3. Visit the four outdoor monuments with your dog.
4. Take a photo of your dog with the Standing Lincoln statue.

Ceremony with Park Ranger

• All dogs and their people to be recognized for their accomplishment in an “official” ceremony with the Park Ranger.
• Dogs will receive an official B.A.R.K. Ranger dog tag or you may choose a B.A.R.K. Ranger bandana instead.

Celebrate Accomplishment

• After, we will drive 10 minutes to Artisan’s Park in Windsor, VT to explore this dog-friendly area. Depending on how large our group is, we may visit SILO Distillery or possibly Harpoon Brewery for a tasting. Each have dog-friendly decks.

IS THIS EVENT GOOD FOR REACTIVE DOGS?
Reactive Dog Level 2-3. See our Comfort Chart for explanation. There is lots of room to spread out at the Park, however, the trails we hike are narrow and dogs may feel uncomfortable if another dog and their handler are passing by.  Artisan Park may be very busy depending on the weather. You do have the option of just joining us for the Saint Gaudens program. TRAIL RATING:
The Ravine Trail and Blow-Me-Down Trail is rated Level 2-2.5. The trail is narrow in some places and has an elevation gain of 164 feet. The ravine is a steeper climb down and then back up.

COST: Please preregister below for this event. Limited to 15 tickets.

• *NOTE: There is an additional charge of $10/person (ages 16 and older) to enter Saint Gaudens. If you have a National Park Pass, you get in free. Passes can be found here Entrance Passes (U.S. National Park Service) or you can pay the $10 fee at the park. You will be required to pay this fee at the Park store at the main building.

Full refunds issued if cancellation received 72 hours prior to event start time, otherwise no refund if canceled after.

Saint-Gaudens National Historical Park is located at 139 Saint Gaudens Rd., Cornish, NH. All the details you need will be sent 24 hours prior to the event.

CANCELLATIONS:
If weather or covid conditions make gathering and walking unsafe, the event will be cancelled and announced in the Event section of the Facebook Group and on this Calendar page.
