SPECIAL EVENT: Snow Moon Owl Prowl
ABOUT THE EVENT:
Join us for a full moon walk, under the February snow moon, at the Hooksett Riverwalk Trail in Hooksett, NH for a unique opportunity to listen for courting owls as dusk descends. This adventure will be led by Kelly Dwyer, award-winning environmental educator, and owner of Nature Education Opportunities. Kelly will share her amazing owl calls with us as well as discuss owl courtship rituals.
Meandering along the wide and level trails, adjacent to the Merrimack River, we will discuss:
- The natural history of several owl species such as the Barred, Great-horned and Screech, including fascinating courtship behaviors, winter survival adaptations and unique songs and calls.
- With the full Snow Moon this evening, we will cover the impacts of winter weather and snow conditions on these beautiful avian predators.
- A sneak peek at March Mammal Madness-courtship and mating rituals. You will now understand why your dog may be growling and howling at the windows at night!
PLEASE be prepared for a portion of the walk to be after sunset. Bring flashlights, headlamps, and appropriate footwear (boots and ice cleats, if needed) and clothing, as well as any items your dog may need for comfortable walking.
A special treat will be provided as a reward for dogs to enjoy. If your dog has allergies, please alert us at woof@goldendognh.com.

IS THIS EVENT GOOD FOR REACTIVE DOGS?
Dogs must be on leash at this trail. The trail is mostly wide and flat with many areas to pull off trail if needed. This is a popular trail for walking dogs, but we don’t expect much traffic for our evening walk. Please remember that you are also welcome to attend without your dog if you feel this would be an uncomfortable setting for them. If you have concerns or questions about if this event is right for your dog, please email woof@goldendognh.com for assistance.
