SPECIAL EVENT: Long Lead Training & Recall

ABOUT THE EVENT:
Experience the Freedom of “Off-Leash” Adventures! Join Golden Dog and Cindy Ehlers, a certified professional rewards-based dog trainer with over 30 years of experience, for a 2-hour, hands-on Long Lead Training & Recall session on 75 acres of private land in Belmont, NH. Discover the joy of exploring trails with your dog “off-leash”, knowing they will come when called, stop and wait at a distance, or sit when needed—all while practicing on the safety of a long lead.

We will be hiking about 2 miles over rolling flat terrain out to the river and back. There will also be opportunities for the dogs to cool off in the water if desired.

This training is perfect for dogs of all temperaments, whether they need to brush up on their trail manners or are learning for the first time. Cindy believes dogs learn best through play, so expect a fun and engaging session filled with learning and bonding. You’ll leave equipped with simple solutions for behavior challenges, whether your dog is fearful, exuberant, or reactive.

During the session, you’ll learn:

• How to teach a new behavior in just three easy steps
• How to phase out food rewards and introduce life rewards that your dog will love
• Exercises to help your dog remain calm, no matter what distractions they face
• Practical solutions for real-life encounters on the trail

There may be an opportunity for dogs to be off-leash. This will be decided at the event by interested handlers and Cindy who will qualify if your dog is a candidate.

Each participant will receive Cindy’s Simple Solutions handout, packed with tips and techniques to continue your training journey at home.

TRAIL RATING:
This private land trail is rated as Level 1.5-2 Moderate. See an explanation of our Trail Rating System. We will be working on games and activities in this quiet outdoor setting.

IS THIS EVENT GOOD FOR REACTIVE DOGS?
Reactive Dog Level 3-4. See our Comfort Chart for explanation. Your dog may feel uncomfortable at this event with other dogs having a greater ability to explore and practice recall on long lead. We are a smaller group but we are not yet familiar with the trail on this land. There will only be 10 dogs participating however so a smaller group. If you have concerns or questions about if this event is right for your dog, please email woof@goldendognh.com for assistance.

COST: Tickets are limited to 10 dog/person teams.

Only 1 dog/handler for maximum happiness. Full refund issued if cancellation received 4 days prior to event start time, otherwise no refund if canceled after. We must have 10 participants to run this event.

ABOUT CINDY EHLERS:
Cindy Ehlers, owner of Pawsitive Pet located in Barrington, NH, has over 30 years of experience in animal care. She is a certified professional rewards-based dog trainer and certified trauma responder.

Cindy provides simple solutions for people struggling with dog behavior problems, and specializes in therapy dog and service dog training. After responding to a high school shooting in 1998 with her therapy dog, she developed a training curriculum for Animal Assisted Crisis Response (AACR) and implemented programs using therapy dogs to support at-risk populations and those in crisis. Today, over 400 certified K9 teams across the nation continue this important work.

Today, Cindy helps people and pets prepare for any disaster with confidence – helping to navigate challenges with compassion and expertise.

CANCELLATIONS:
If weather or covid conditions make gathering and walking unsafe, the event will be cancelled and announced in the Event section of the Facebook Group and on this Calendar page. Participants will also be emailed a cancellation notification.
