SPECIAL EVENT: 2nd Annual Super Bowl Saturday Hike & After Pawty
ABOUT THE EVENT:
Join us for Super Bowl Saturday (not Sunday) for a hike around the Derry/Windham area and an after pawty at Fody’s Tavern in Derry. We encourage you and your dog to dress up in your favorite team jersey and compete for prizes and notoriety. In addition, there will be a football trivia contest. Team up with others at your table to participate for cash prizes and recognition at our 2nd Annual Super Bowl Saturday Pawty.
Our adventure begins in an urban setting on the Derry Rail Trail. We will walk through the Derry town center to Bowers Road where we will attempt to access the Quail Hill Conservation Area (dependent upon snow amounts/ice). The walk will be approximately 3-4 miles round trip on a mostly paved, easy walking path that is plowed in winter.
According to the Derry Rail Trail Alliance, there are lesser known “secret” areas along the trail where you can jump off onto “side trails” thru the woods for a nice peaceful walk thru nature. One of the hidden “gems” in Derry is the Quail Hill Conservation Area. This Conservation Property actually abuts the Rail Trail just north of Bowers Road crossing. You can enter the area by following the footsteps painted on the trail as part of the Robert Frost Poem. We will go in search of the “one less traveled by”.
IS THIS EVENT GOOD FOR REACTIVE DOGS?
This trail is flat and wide with areas to pull off if another dog approaches. However, this is a popular urban area, and depending on the weather, there may be several people walking with dogs. Also, if your dog is not comfortable around other dogs in a smaller, outside area, then the After Pawty would not be a good environment for them. Please consider this when deciding whether or not to bring your dog. You are welcome to attend without your dog as well. If you have concerns or questions about if this event is right for your dog, please email woof@goldendognh.com for assistance.
TRAIL RATING:
This Trail is rated as Level 1 Moderate. It is wide, flat, and paved. For this adventure, you may need YakTrax or ice cleats. We will give an update as the date gets closer. If location too icy, we will choose another trail in Derry. See an explanation of our Trail Rating System.
