ONLINE EVENT: The Rabies Vaccine: What Every Dog Guardian Should Know About Immunity, Titers & New Research
ABOUT THE EVENT:
Rabies vaccination has been a routine part of canine health care for decades—but how much do you really know about the disease, the vaccine, how long immunity may last, and what happens if your dog is exposed?
Join Golden Dog and our partner, Dr. Lisa Boyer of Animal Health Consultants, for an informative conversation about rabies and what today’s dog guardians should understand about protecting their dogs. We’ll look beyond the standard vaccination reminder to explore current research, vaccination schedules, rabies titers, potential exposure, medical exemptions, and emerging developments in rabies prevention.
Dr. Boyer will also help separate what the science tells us, what is still being studied, and what is required by law—giving you a better understanding of the decisions and responsibilities surrounding rabies vaccination.
During this Ask the Veterinarian session, we’ll explore:
- What rabies actually is and why it remains a serious public and animal health concern
- How rabies vaccines work and what we know about immunity following vaccination
- Duration of immunity and why vaccination schedules don’t necessarily tell the whole story about an individual dog’s immune response
- Rabies titers—what they measure, what they can and cannot tell us, and whether they can replace vaccination
- Current rabies vaccination requirements and what dog guardians should know about staying compliant
- Medical exemptions and circumstances in which a veterinarian may recommend one
- What happens after a possible rabies exposure, including encounters with bats and other wildlife
- Vaccine reactions and individual risk considerations to discuss with your veterinarian
- Emerging rabies research and vaccine technology and what it could mean for the future
- Questions to ask your own veterinarian so you can make informed decisions about your dog’s care
Whether you have a puppy approaching their first rabies vaccine, an adult dog receiving regular boosters, a senior dog, or a dog with health concerns or a history of vaccine reactions, this conversation will give you a clearer understanding of rabies vaccination, protection, and the evolving science behind it.
